Shehas been a Vascular Technologist for 21 years,starting her career in Washington, DC where shetrained at Georgetown University Hospital. Afterreturning to Michigan, she worked at Detroit MedicalCenter and William Beaumont Hospital beforerelocating to Northern Michigan. As a member of ourteam, she is dedicated to serving patients byperforming quality vascular ultrasound examinationswith compassion and humor.JAMES GRACY, PA-CJames Gracy, PA-C joined GreatLakes Cardiothoracic & VascularSurgery in October 2007. Hehas worked side by side withDr. Vazales for the last tenyears. He has been on staff atNorthern Michigan RegionalHospital since 1991 in theCardiac and Thoracic SurgeryDepartment. He has been the first assistant in at least5000 open heart surgeries and pioneered minimallyinvasive endoscopic vein harvesting at NorthernMichigan Regional Hospital. Since joining Great Lakes,he has performed over 3000 vein procedures in ouroffice.NATALIE SPIERLING, MANatalie Spierling joined ourpractice in February 2011 andbrings with her a wealth ofexperience in the medical/surgical field. She participatesin all aspects of patient careincluding assisting our officesurgical procedures. Natalie received her trainingas a Surgical Assistant in the United States AirForce. Previously, she has worked as a surgicalassistant at Munson Medical Center in Neurologyand Plastic Surgery and at Northern MichiganRegional Hospital for ten years in theCardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery department. For the past nine years, she has worked as aMedical assistant at a urology practice in Petoskey. BRAD VAZALES, MDDr. Vazales has been performingheart, lung and vascular surgeryfor over twenty-five years. The last ten years he was the MedicalDirector of Cardiac and ThoracicSurgery at Northern MichiganRegional Hospital. Prior to that, hewas Chief of CardiothoracicSurgery at Lancaster General Hospital inPennsylvania. He has remained on the cutting edge of new technology and surgical techniques for complexheart and lung surgeries. Unfortunately (though notuncommon to this profession), Dr. Vazales is no longerphysically able to perform these complex surgeries. Aphysical disability has put a premature end to anoutstanding surgical career. However, Dr. Vazales'experience makes him an excellent resource forsecond opinions, surgeon referrals and patientmanagement issues. He continues to be very active inthe treatment of venous reflux disease. Our staff consists of experienced professionals working closely together to deliver thehighest level health care with superior communication, compassion and respect.
